What is that threaded through the trees and mountains? Nothing less than a pall of cigarette smoke shrouding a mysterious figure and his sweaty hunchbeard accomplice as they plunge through the dusty landscape.

This week, after months in torpor, The Count flings open his casket and strides forth to carve his name into haring history. Expect nothing but hills, flour and abandoned chicken farms.

Run #1563: ‘The Red Dress Run 2019’

Back when this writer was watching confused lads trying on their mother’s heels, lipstick, and Chris DeBurgh records, the origins of the Red Dress Run were taking shape in a land far, far away…
 
A young lady was once visiting San Diego and was told by her friend that she’d be meeting some friends after her arrival, so she smartly donned a chic red dress and stilettos for the occasion. Little did she know that she would be attending her first Hash, and her attire elicited a few laughs and sneers from the local half-minds. But after it was decided that she might “sit in the truck” and go to B point, the woman decided to “fuck ‘em” and go in her dress and heels, anyway. So impressed were the hashers that they raised funds for her return journey the following year, only for the famous (infamous?) Lady in Red (may she Hash in peace) to agree on the condition that all funds go to a local charity.   Thus, the Red Dress Run was born.   Many years later, thousands of Red Dress Runs later, and tens of millions of RMB and dollars raised for charity later…. the Guangzhou Hash continues the great hashing tradition of the Run this Saturday. Satisfy the many urges that have been longing in your heart; going out in drag, giving to charity, and experiencing a LIVE TRAIL in Red Dress! That’s right, LIVE TRAIL. With flour in one hand and the dress in the other to enable running along Guangzhou’s beautiful hills.   Ending with beer, bar, KTV and the annual Red Dress auction features items for sale to the highest bidder. Bring your own item to auction and bid on something else! Special thanks to restaurants and hashers for their donations to the cause*!

This Saturday is a work day! And yet hash will still happen, thanks to the hard work of perpetually unemployed hares like Hiking Club and temporarily unemployed hares like Chubby Chaser.
The hares think it’s funny how you can get a holiday and yet still have to make up the holiday by giving up your weekend. It’s funny how sentences that start with “it’s funny how” are never actually funny.

Last week’s “mystery hash” might have caused some anxiety among some hashers who fear the unknown; Lost Sausage ballbusters, a Three Inches of Pain hangover trail, or any Hunkaspunk trail. This week, however, you can rest assured about what’s headed your way. There’s no tricks here, as we transition from mystery to giving full disclosure about what lies in store. Kinda like Platterpuss registering with the police anytime he walks within 500 meters of an elementary school.
